For the first time in a long time, I am decorating this year. I think it's because I'm going to be a Nana in the spring for the first time!!!
ReplyDeleteme me. I need to make a stocking for my son and daughter in law.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing to display are my hand made stockings. I knit one for the husband and quilted each of the daughters' stockings. Alas, I only have a store bought one my youngest got at an after Christmas sale for .75 cents. I sure would love to have a knit kit to make my very own!
ReplyDeleteWe decorate a bit more each weekend of Advent to get ready for Christmas. The nativity and wreath went up last weekend. This weekend we're getting a tree. I'm looking forward to being able to put up stockings soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm also looking forward to trying the yarn when it's available since I love superwash yarns for my kids.
I've made handmade, knitted gifts for everyone on my list this year... loving it!!! The stockings are gorgeous, by the way :)
ReplyDeleteditetre(at)mac(dot)com
I want to make handmade stockings for my girls and I LOVE these patterns, just perfect. We prepare by putting the tree up and doing many Christmas activities like baking cookies and such each week before Christmas.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of decoration are the stockings, they show each person's personality, love them! (CraftyCupcake on Ravelry).
ReplyDeleteNow that I've learned how to make socks, I'd love to make a special one for someone special in my life.
ReplyDeleteWe decorate our house as a family. The kids get to choose the placement of the tree (with parental urging) and then we let them put some ornaments on it. They are 3 and 2, so no fragile ones. My husband is in charge of the outside lights! After that, our Elf on the Shelf makes his grand appearance for the duration of the Christmas season!
ReplyDeleteDecorating will be a challenge this year... we have a new puppy! Everything is going to be up high!!
ReplyDeleteI'm knitting and baking up a storm! :D Your budget for gifts should never reflect the size of your heart ;)
ReplyDeleteMy preparation this year is knitted gifts, I have young children so I do not decorate due to the possibility of destruction :)
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to squash my Humbug and get into Christmas this year. I'd love to surprise my husband with a handmade stocking.
ReplyDeleteoh gosh, these are so classic and gorgeous! I would love to make these for my daughter and baby-on-the-way. We do a little decorating each day in December, and this year I think we're going with lots of white. (heyjenrenee on Ravelry) :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a stocking of my very own. We have a knitted tree skirt (which I adore) and always have a wonderful time putting up the tree and baking goodies as a family.
ReplyDeleteI am decorating today, watching A Christmas Story. I use the same decorations every year with a few replacements and additions.
ReplyDeleteWe're about to hang the lights outside and put up a tree. Then the cookie baking begins. (rav: enidb)
ReplyDeleteoh these look amazing! I would love to try my hand at this project! I still have two gifts on needles to finish for the holidays - what is one more :)
ReplyDeleteI have a brand new baby niece--two weeks old--and would love to make her a stocking. I still don't feel like it's Christmas without my Bert & Ernie stocking I got when I was four.
ReplyDeleteHand knits and quilted items all come out to decorate our home for Christmas; then the grown kids flock home this year and it will be chaotic bliss!
ReplyDeleteI always decorate inside and out. I want to make new stockings this year and these are awesome !
ReplyDeleteI decorate everything! With trees, wreaths, snowmen, santas etc. I have never knitted a stocking and would love to have the kit and try doing a stocking.
ReplyDeleteWe have the tree up with lights on. Next are the tree decorations and fireplace decor, stockings, and reindeer card holder. Tamsyn
ReplyDeleteI don't really decorate. I do hang up a wreath on the door. I need to knit a stocking so a free kit would be great. I love CEY.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to unwrap all the heirlooms I have collected over the years and find the perfect ornament to add to the collection this year
ReplyDeleteThese are stockings I would make! With my Swedish heritage they are calling to me, especially the red and white colors.
ReplyDeleteOh I put a tree and there are ornaments that I have made since I was a child. Some my daughter made as she grew up then there are the ones I have made as an adult. We put some lights up on the outside of the house. But for me it is making things to give to others that decorate that mean the most to me.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Anyone would be a Pleasure to knit!
ReplyDeleteI love lots of lights and color. Stockings hang by the fireplace. I have been knitting for Christmas since August so I'm almost ready to wrap. I love wrapped gifts under the tree and then I give them all away.
ReplyDeleteI was in London last summer and saw MillaMia at an LYS. Love it! Can't wait to knit with it. I would love the all white cable stocking since my other stockings are red and green.
Arabella98 on ravelry
Love these stockings!!! We always get ready for Christmas as soon as Rudy, our Elf on the Shelf, shows up, usually a day or two after Thanksgiving. My 8yo knows that once Rudy gets here, it's time to decorate for him so he feels "at home." So happy that he still believes in all the magic! (Ravelry username...herla)
ReplyDeleteO.M.G! These are perfect!
ReplyDeleteWe prepare for the holidays with cookies. Gobs and gobs of cookies. And our lego advent calendar.
I'd like to knit a christmas stocking this year-we decorate the house with christmas tree and nativity sets.
ReplyDeleteI prayed for a man to love. What showed up was a cat with a heart shaped patch of white wool on his nose! We are fast friends. I'd love to knit him a stocking filled with kittie goodies to decorate his food dish. This would splash up a sweet corner of the covered porch where he nestles into a box of felted alpaca scraps from me wee herd. ahhh family...
ReplyDeleteI love these stockings! And the yarn is super soft!
ReplyDeleteWe do very traditional decorations, but the best part is the (real) tree, with ornaments that have been in the family for years, plus new ones we pick up on our travels each year.
ReplyDeleteslrknit on Rav.
These stockings are beautiful, and I've never knitted a stocking before (yet).
ReplyDeleteWe break out the Christmas decorations on Thanksgiving and then watch as our 6 cats try desperately to destroy ever last of of them, but HAHA - shatterproof ornaments! :)
Also, LOVE breaking out the Christmas candles.

I keep things simple--a wreath by the door, a big poinsettia, and a small tree. The only thing missing is a hand-knit stocking.
ReplyDeleteWe get ready by letting the kids to the decorating in the house, I make all the knitted gifts, then the week before Christmas we spend the whole week making goodies. We give everyone home made gifts!
ReplyDeleteTotally love doing color work. Stockings are great gifts
ReplyDeleteknittinod on ravelry
I have knitted socks for everyone on my list this year.....a stocking would be great to make for ME!
ReplyDeleteThese look like a lot of fun to make.. Having a season of limited funds so winning a kit would cheer up the holidays.
ReplyDeleteThis year is special....my little granddaughter is aware of Christmas. Her eyes glow when she sees the lights her daddy put up outside. "Daddy made Christmas!" I can't wait to put up our 9' tree with all the handmade ornaments I have been adding throughout the years. We will be setting up the creche and the Christmas village. A hand-knit stocking would be the perfect touch:) (rav: stephanie1903)
ReplyDeleteStarted the decoration with opening the first "doo" of my chocolate adventscalendar, now I'm getting all the decorations out and need to knit yet a stocking for my friend - winning a stocking kit would be fantastic for my "budget" :-) (ForgottenArt on ravelry)
ReplyDeleteJust got the wreath and the advent calendar. My son (9) just asked when stockings go up!
ReplyDeleteWe've been trying to keep decorations to strictly handmade ones from myself or the kids. It gives the children a sense of pride that they helped and they can show guests what they've done. I have been knitting stockings, ornaments, etc, and the kids and I build a wreath for the front door. It so much fun. :)
ReplyDeleteSince the folks are visiting me this year, it'll be my first time decorating my house for Christmas since I moved in. I just ordered the wreath and have been convinced to find a reindeer for outside...we'll see about lights :)I'm waiting until they arrive to get the tree. (ravid: knitkai)
ReplyDeleteI'm cerdeb in Ravelry, and can be contacted there. I am so excited to see this new line! Thanks for the preview, and I received the link for this blog post through WEBS on facebook.
ReplyDeleteHoping I win.... youngest grandchild could use a stocking......
Would love to try out the MillaMia yarn. Their patterns for children are wonderfully designed. I'm lighting up the Norfolk pine this year.
ReplyDeleteOooooh! I love to knit stockings! I think the candy cane pattern is my fave...running to check out more of the details on this yarn I am not familiar with!
ReplyDeletePKJewelry on Rav here!
We decorate with greens and lights for the holidays and use baby's breath to look like snow on our tree. I'd love to make the red and white stripped stocking although they all look beautiful. [ravid: mckate]
ReplyDeleteNifty! I try to hold off of decorating til closer to Christmas, to wit, we're not getting the tree this year until the 17th (but it stays til Epiphany). My house is small, so other than a swag on the front door, the tree, and a vase of holly, that's it for decor. If I won the sock kit, I'd probably hang it from the baluster to the #2 floor. thanks! [rav ID is AllisonInPhilly]
ReplyDeleteI might hang some lights around my outdoor porch and put up a few decorations; but most likely no tree this year. I have three lively cats who go galloping and thundering through the house when the mood strikes. I can just see the tree coming down during one of their passes through! (fortunately none of the three knits!)
ReplyDeletewe need a new stocking in the family for our bunny addition. I wonder if the kitties would be jealous if his was hand knit?
ReplyDeleteIkisti (rav id)
This year I will be decorating for my little twins. They have just turned a year and a half. So we will have lots of lights and non breakable decorations. We will be doing a lot of coloring of paper decorations and baking some gingerbread to hang on the tree!! (And another batch to eat, I'm sure...)
ReplyDeleteI'm magicbean83 on ravelry. :)
We have a small apartment so we do a tiny tree and stockings on the wall, pretty simple!
ReplyDeletezricka [rav id]
We get the Christmas tree set up , get out all the ornaments and let the 3 grand boys (ages 13, 10 & 7) "decorate". They also select the other decorations they would like to see out. Then they go home and leave it to Nana & Papa to finish up!
ReplyDeleteThat's what Christmas is about here
I have a box of Christmas decorations I like to get out and place around the house :) And I like to buy a cinnamon candle but sometimes that happens and sometimes it doesn't. haha
ReplyDeleteFor Christmas I usually bake a delicious stollen and German cookies, which make the house smell sooo good! And then I finish the Christmas preparations by knitting up presents as fast as possible as close to Christmas Eve as possible (procrastination anyone?). Cheers!
ReplyDeleteRavelry ID vivaciousknitter
Love the cabled stockings! I'm getting to be a bit of a grinch and don't do a lot of decorating until near the holiday itself. Then it's 2 weeks of intense Christmas and it all gets packed up again.
ReplyDeleteI have made knitted Christmas Stocking for all 8 of my grandchildren, my 3 sons and thier spouses, extended family members and am now making one for a yankee swap. I love making them as well as making new designs!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas everyone!
I bake. Have already made more than 20 kinds of cookies and stashed them in the freezer. Time left to knit up a fab stocking.
ReplyDeleteAsp on raveley
We have a very traditional Christmas - the tree goes up the week before, but I continue to get the house decorated all month. My daughter and her husband (my brand new, first son-in-law) will be home from Australia (he has never had a hand-knitted stocking!), and the whole family will be here for Christmas eve, and then Christmas day with more family!
ReplyDeleteI've made beautiful stockings for the rest of my family, but don't have a knitted one myself! Would love to do the cabled one!
ReplyDeleteI have recently moved to a new place and am looking forward to make it an all red Christmas. I have already put up the red lights and bought a lot of red ornaments. Have planned on setting up the tree this weekend with friends. I am planning on the menu for the party. Would love to knit red stockings. I can be contacted using my ravelry username bhargavip08
ReplyDeleteI've got my wreath up and am starting to pull out all of the family decorations. We start our countdown to christmas with a Lego advent calendar.
ReplyDeleteI tend to decorate more at work than at home, but this is the first year I won't have any kitties to climb the tree or eat the tinsel, so may have to do some at home. I love snowmen, so they're always an integral part, no matter where I decorate!
ReplyDeleteI love to have these. This is my daughters first Christmas with their own home to decorate and I would love for them to have these to decorate with and something they will always have to cherish for years to come.
ReplyDeleteThis would be great for my 3 little grand kids.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest preparation will be to make the 16 hour drive home. Luckily, I get to knit in the car rather than having to be the driver!
ReplyDeleteRav ID Hannahlou88
Love these stockings! As a new knitter I'm starting some new holiday traditions in my house--including knitted ornaments for the tree and participating in an advent ornament KAL--and I'd love to add stockings to that tradition.

Simplicity is the key to my decorating this Holiday Season. Homemade, warm and welcoming decorations from my childrens, my husbands and my childhood as well as a touch of love when preparing for this Blessed Day.
ReplyDeletechesterhrubiec@comcast.net
I start the day after Thanksgiving, making chocolate covered pretzels with my mother and younger son. I make a gingerbread house that my sons decorate. Of course I have a tree decorated with sentimental ornaments. I decorate the mantel with nutcrackers and knit stockings I made for my sons. I need to make a stocking for me, and love the red cabled version.
ReplyDeleteI decorate our dining room with a knitted garland on the chandelier and shiny ornaments hanging down from it. Our mantle is covered with vintage tree decorations with two knit stockings already. I'm going to have to start a third before next year for our first Christmas with our new daughter (i'm due in February).
ReplyDeleteI'm on Ravelry as redmelbug or redmelbug at yahoo dot com
I'm dying to knit stockings for Christmas! I love the nordic star pattern.
ReplyDeleteI'm bandiebabe on ravelry.
I try to make festive little sox to keep everybody's feet warm and "in the spirit." I have a houseful of dogs and cats, so decorations tend to be out of reach of exploring and playful critters, but, as long as our festive feet keep moving, the sox are safe!!!
ReplyDeleteAlong with all the usual decorating and baking, I make sure to get out the winter essential oils: peppermint, cedar, francincense, cinnamon, etc. A candle diffuser spreads the lovely smells throughout the house.
ReplyDeleteWe decorate our tree and hang stockings with the kids, and we also hang a wreath on each outside door.
ReplyDelete(ecram on ravelry)
This year i knit a special Elf on the shelf. He has flown back to the North Pole every night since Thanksgiving. The kids love to look for him each morning.
ReplyDeleteI will soon be hanging additional decorations, possibly fewer this year due to out new kitten with a propensity to jump :-)
Docjulie on ravelry.
I always put up my tree while drinking hot chocolate and listening to the Anita Kerr Singers Spend This Holiday With Me album (originally released in 1969.) It's a family tradition!
ReplyDeleteI have a collection of nutcrackers that are stored for a good portion of the year. I just brought them out of storage and my husband will put them on a prominent shelf in our great/living room. I will bring out some creche scenes as well and then when we get our tree the ornaments and other Christmas items will come out of the attic.
ReplyDeletemsgb245 at gmail dot com
We decorate as a family - my children, their spouses and the grandchildren. There is something special in watching the joy and light in the eyes of the little ones as we unpack the ornaments and decorations. Wonderful memories are forged and bonds strengthened. These stockings are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi everyone, and Merry Christmas...I try to knit something for everyone and bake something to...of course the tree goes up, we go out and get the biggest one that will fit on the house and put on as many lights as we can get...I love to make the whole house look as festive as I can get it, the bedrooms, kitchen, dining room and even the bathrooms...why not them too.On Christmas everyone comes over for Christmas dinner....reach me at pjoyabby@yahoo.com...Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteI haven't decorated at all the past few Christmases, but this year feels more Christmas-y than it did in the past. (I'm attributing this to being pregnant-- first kid!) This year, I'm hoping to get a tree and hang some lights around the apartment. For the first time since we've been married, my husband and I will be putting gifts under the tree for each other. I'm excited! And I've never been drawn to stocking patterns, but I love the ones in the kits! (susanpak on ravelry)
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of getting away from the (less than cool looking) quilted stockings we've had for years...(they got kind of moldy) & start a new tradition. Stockings like these would be great!
ReplyDeletecarolwi on Ravelry
Oh, thank you so much for the chance to win the stocking kit!! LOVE it! tanna
ReplyDeleteDecorate my home for the holidays! Oh geez. Both myself and the boy work customer service type positions during the holidays. We are so busy our decorating consists of two stockings for us, a small stocking for the cats then a evergreen decoration that spans the shelf under our TV decorated with fake Holly.
ReplyDeleteWe decorate our small place with a tree, stockings over the fireplace, and loits of lights outside.
ReplyDeleteawesome! well we usually get a tree..and i decorate and bake some amazing choco chip cookies and knit till my fingers might fall off in preparation for christmas :) raineoc@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteWe'll get a tree, decorate the house and I'm going to bake cookies.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Germany, Erika
This is our first year of using Elf of the Shelf for our little girls, aged 2 and 3. It has been a delight to see the excitment on their faces when they spot him in a room. It has gotten all of us into the Christmas spirit. dmm337@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy sisters an I are coming from all over the US to my mother's house and we are decorating, including a tree, lights and menorah; cooking; baking and will generally be having a blast for two weeks of family time.
ReplyDeleteThese stockings are adorably simple! I don't like a lot of bling, even for the holidays.
ReplyDeleteWe usually have my husband help decorate our tree and put up our lights but we will be doing it in his honor this year, he passed away 2 weeks ago. We are not going to lose our Christmas spirit because he wouldn't want our holidays to suffer. He loved Christmas and we are going to carry on that love in our home.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the cabled stocking! I'd be excited to win this kit. Socknurse on Ravelry or MDeb50@yahoo.com

ReplyDeleteI'm in Canada so I guess not able to win the draw but just wanted to say your stocking designs are lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt has been a tradition in my family from my mother who was from Ireland to decorate on Christmas Eve. We keep the decorations up until the Epiphany, 6 Jan. I have a lot of ornaments handed down from her and new things a lot of them hand made by children and grandchildren. The stockings are lovely; hope I win.
ReplyDeleteA decorated tree, a nativity, lights all over and stockings hanging from the mantle make the house festive. A new grandson needs a stocking from his Grammie!
ReplyDeleteWow, these are so beautiful! I can't wait to see this yarn in my LYS! The first things I do for Christmas is get out my gigantic mitten . . . I knit a huge colorwork mitten with bulky yarn several years ago to use when I read the Jan Brett story "The Mitten" to the little kids I worked with - now I hang the mitten on the wall like a stocking every year!

My husband and I decorate for the holidays in a traditional way. He is a museum director and historian so we live in a turn of the century house. I am always trying to think of new spins on traditional decorating for the holidays and these stocking patterns have inspired me. Hopefully there is still time to knit these stockings for Christmas Eve as we don't yet have stockings to hang! You can find me on raverly with mleasum or by email with mleasum@iastate.edu.

ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas! Any one of these stockings would look great hanging on my fireplace. My daughter attends college in Japan and won't be home for the holidays. I think that one of these stockings would be a wonderful keepsake for her from us. They're all beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy kids have taken over the decorating completely, giving me precious time to finish my knitting! I don't have any stockings as of right now. I really love the patterns! Thanks for giving us a chance to win. I'm "iloveafarmer" on Ravelry
ReplyDeleteThe shape of these stocking patterns are so great!! To start decorating, I usually put Christmas music on, light a favorite scented candle, ask my teenagers to bring down the boxes from the attic and then I just start creating. I might add a new decoration each year but I mostly try to use what I have in new ways...that is fun!!
ReplyDeleteI have many antique ornaments and decorations from the 40's and 50's.Lights outside. My favorite is our lighted Angel on the mantel.Lots of Christmas music...ciao4now64@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI start with the Tree and get my Grandson to help.. The we just put stuff out as he decides!
ReplyDeleteI decorate our tree in a sugarplum theme
ReplyDeleteWe lived a few different areas when hubby was military, so for me xmas is the best! All our decorations have been made by us or friends over the years and vary depending on the area we lived or neighbors were from (samoa, ireland, hawaii, rhode island, NH, WA ... to name a few) When decorating i remember each of these people and their friendship and love. We have been needing handmade knit stockings though and i have put it off. So would love to try your kit! :)
ReplyDeleteI do my spring cleaning in November first then I put up my very large wreath, house lights and then Christmas tree.
ReplyDeleteI love decorating with wreaths! thanks for the lovely giveaway!

ReplyDeleteI like to burn Christmas scented candles but a hand knit stocking would be a lovely addition! anwinter
ReplyDeleteI'm in charge of getting the tree and putting the lights on it. My son insists on waiting for my daughter to return from college before the final decorating. He and his sister unwrap each ornament and reminisce about the ornaments special place in our family history as they decorate. I love that this is so special for my quirky 14 y.o. son.
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays, Mosmama (on ravelry)
I would love to try my hand a knitting a Christmas stocking... I have made socks so hopefully that would help! We decorate every year... If we are late our grown children have "fits". We drag boxes and boxes down from the attic... boxes full of hand me down ornaments, the kids ( and grandkids) hand-made treasures and my Annalee mice, santas and deer. My husband does the outdoor lights and together we get the rest done!
ReplyDeleteWe actually head to the city for Christmas. So, I try my best to decide on what decorations I will make each year. Then my hubby and son head off to purchase a tree. We all decorate it and enjoy all the last minute rush of shopping. Oh, by the way our son celebrates his birthday on Christmas eve...so its double the fun at Christmas for us.
ReplyDeleteWe always put up a tree with lots of felted ornaments but because we have a 2 year old this year I decided to me a tree for him. It's a 4 ft felt tree hung on the wall with lots of felt ornaments for him to play with.

ReplyDeleteWe try to keep it simple, and also stick to decorations with memories and decorations from nature. We get a Christmas tree and a wreath for each outside door, and put up decorations that our parents passed on to us when we bought our house. These are so pretty! Making stockings has long been on my to do list also. I have a hand knit one from my childhood. And I found the vintage pattern for the very same one a couple of years ago! Every year I say I need to make that and every year I run out of time! I'm thinking summer is a really good time to tackle these projects!

I don't really decorate for xmas anymore since I don't really celebrate it but..
ReplyDeleteGrowing up my mother would occasionally knit. She knitted xmas stockings for herself, my father, me and my two brothers. They hung from the fireplace mantel chalk full of little goodies and small gifts; and that is my most fond memory of xmas. I would love to knit up some xmas stockings and gift them to people to carry on that tradition in some way.

Decorating here is minimal. A few special hand towels; an heirloom from my husband's side of the family and a special knickknack from mine. That's about it!
ReplyDeleteI always do a thorough cleaning of my home first, putting away the pictures, figures, and other little decorations that are out for most of the year. That way, I have a blank slate to decorate for Christmas! The Nativity set comes out, there are ornaments in the windows, stockings are hung. How fun it would be to make my own!
ReplyDeleteAfter Thanksgiving - we go in our storage area and pull out all the boxes for decorating the outside and inside. Then the fun begins - besides decorating the downstairs, we decorate the stair rails, a big picture window in the stairwell and the bathrooms upstairs.
ReplyDeleteOur big holiday get together is done over Thanksgiving so Christmas is remarkably calm and relaxing around my house!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a lot of money these days so we do a totally homemade Christmas. I knit, sew, crochet and weave gifts for everyone. My husband joins in by making amazing gifts with his woodworking skills. We both make these gifts from repurposed items or things we already have on hand. We decorate each room with a Christmas tree and a theme by repurposing items we normally use - cookie cutters and kitchen utensils. The repurposing didn't start out by choice but it has become a wonderful tradition that brings back the true meaning of the holiday and removes the commercial focus of previous years. Happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteWe get our house ready as a family. It starts the day we get our tree. All the decorations come out of storage and we play Christmas music as we spend the day decorating the tree and house for the holiday.

Decorating this year means decorating my daughter's place because last year she inherited all of the family's ornaments. I spend my time knitting presents and ornaments. Cheers. Tisha tttisha@Gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy preparation starts long before Christmas. It starts with knitting. When I was a child, my parents told us that it was better to give than receive. So whether the gift was from a coloured picture from a colouring book or construction paper, all friends and relatives were to receive something from our hearts.
ReplyDeleteOh, this such a great gift to us because what is more fun than to have good yarns. But most of all we get the biggest present of all -- to knit with wonderful yarn! What a treat for all. Thanks so much for the idea, because for the winner of this contest could not get a better gift for themselves and some other special person than great yarn to knit with yarn they received.
We don't do a lot of decorating, but this year we're making a better effort to not only get the tree up but put a few more decorations around the house.
ReplyDeleteFirst, thank you for the giveaway! I'd love to win a MillaMia Stocking Kit ... We prepare out home for the holidays by getting out the treasured old favorites -- ornaments of glass and brass, clove oranges for the sideboard and mantel, etc. -- and doing at least one thing new each year; this year, it will be making a few small, free-standing, glued-together "trees" (really pyramids) of pretty ornaments that disappear into the tree normally. Apparently, our children and their spouses have found an even newer way to bring in the holidays ... Last year our family welcomed a granddaughter just after Thanksgiving, and this year our younger daughter and her husband are expecting a baby in mid-December. I'm gkgreen on Ravelry and g_k_green@hotmail.com.
ReplyDeleteFor three days now, I've been saying I'm going to the basement to drag up the skinny pre-lit fake tree (that in more energetic seasons we've put in the entry hall), because the discussion of a real tree for the family room got nowhere this year: "It would smell good..." "Yes, but [insert lame excuse that translates to 'I just don't feel like getting that organized']." We did manage to get a (fake but attractive from a distance) wreath on the front door. And the guest bath has a couple of holiday hand towels (that we hope no one ever uses, 'cause then we'll have to launder them). We're thinking of buying some Trader Joe's JoJo cookies -- like Oreos with candy-cane filling. We still have time to do better, right?
ReplyDeletethis being only my second Christmas as a knitter, I have been looking to make some stockings for our family. Hopefully I can plan better for next year, as 5 stockings is a big undertaking! this year we have our 'Elf on the shelf' hiding all over the house each morning which has been great fun, and I did make a sweater ornament knit in fair isle for each of us to put on the tree. love this kit, can't wait to check the yarn out in person.
