Hopefully I can plan better for next year, as 5 stockings is a big undertaking! this year we have our 'Elf on the shelf' hiding all over the house each morning which has been great fun, and I did make a sweater ornament knit in fair isle for each of us to put on the tree. love this kit, can't wait to check the yarn out in person.
kguennette@yahoo.combitten78https://www.blogger.com/profile/07757926135450247501noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-474824713176294575.post-37975681349082125562011-12-07T15:23:43.126-05:002011-12-07T15:23:43.126-05:00For three days now, I've been saying I'm g...For three days now, I've been saying I'm going to the basement to drag up the skinny pre-lit fake tree (that in more energetic seasons we've put in the entry hall), because the discussion of a real tree for the family room got nowhere this year: "It would smell good..." "Yes, but [insert lame excuse that translates to 'I just don't feel like getting that organized']." We did manage to get a (fake but attractive from a distance) wreath on the front door. And the guest bath has a couple of holiday hand towels (that we hope no one ever uses, 'cause then we'll have to launder them). We're thinking of buying some Trader Joe's JoJo cookies -- like Oreos with candy-cane filling. We prepare out home for the holidays by getting out the treasured old favorites -- ornaments of glass and brass, clove oranges for the sideboard and mantel, etc. -- and doing at least one thing new each year; this year, it will be making a few small, free-standing, glued-together "trees" (really pyramids) of pretty ornaments that disappear into the tree normally. Apparently, our children and their spouses have found an even newer way to bring in the holidays ... Last year our family welcomed a granddaughter just after Thanksgiving, and this year our younger daughter and her husband are expecting a baby in mid-December. So whether the gift was from a coloured picture from a colouring book or construction paper, all friends and relatives were to receive something from our hearts.

Oh, this such a great gift to us because what is more fun than to have good yarns. But most of all we get the biggest present of all -- to knit with wonderful yarn! What a treat for all. Thanks so much for the idea, because for the winner of this contest could not get a better gift for themselves and some other special person than great yarn to knit with yarn they received.dovehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12263120430835394126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-474824713176294575.post-23684381793185371162011-12-06T16:09:48.830-05:002011-12-06T16:09:48.830-05:00Decorating this year means decorating my daughter&...Decorating this year means decorating my daughter's place because last year she inherited all of the family's ornaments. I knit, sew, crochet and weave gifts for everyone. My husband joins in by making amazing gifts with his woodworking skills. We both make these gifts from repurposed items or things we already have on hand. We decorate each room with a Christmas tree and a theme by repurposing items we normally use - cookie cutters and kitchen utensils. The repurposing didn't start out by choice but it has become a wonderful tradition that brings back the true meaning of the holiday and removes the commercial focus of previous years.
